When I entered master Mabuni's dojo in 1944, my first
impression of master Kenwa Mabuni was that of a dauntless
Budo master with penetrating eyes. He was not very
specific about the details. Instead, he showed us
model forms and did everything himself. We had to
see and learn.
In 1945, we established a karate club at kansai Gakuin
University and I asked master Mabuni to instruct us.
The result was that fortunate enough to receive the
teaching of master Mabuni at both his school and at
university.
Master Mabuni always stressed the importance of making
educational institutes the core for the future diffusion
of karate. Accordingly, five karateka graduates from
universities, including myself, were granted the master's
certificate.
The seeds of Shitoryu Karatedo master Mabuni were
sown blossom in many universities and junior and senior
high schools in Japan, and in many parts of the world.
My heart full of emotion when I look back at those
days with master Mabuni 50 years ago. |
